Decorations

First, we prepped for our Christmas in July party the day before by making decorations.

I made the custom banner pictured above with my Cricut, you can use my template found here: Christmas in July Banner.

Landon helped by cutting out snowflakes by hand in different sizes and patterns.

Drinks

I served frozen hot chocolate for our drinks, this is a great way to enjoy hot chocolate (our favorite winter treat) during the summer months. Below is my recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 C milk
  • 1 C ice
  • 1/2 C hot cocoa mix (we used Swiss)
  • 1 big scoop of vanilla ice cream

Directions:

Add all ingredients to blender and blend thoroughly. Optional: Top with whipped cream & chocolate shavings. Yields 2.

Snacks

Thanks to Pinterest I found this great and healthy snack idea that fit perfectly with our theme, Grinch Kabobs!

To make these kabobs you simply need skewers, grapes, sliced bananas, strawberries with the tops cut off, and marshmallows! Mini marshmallows work best however, we had big campfire marshmallows leftover from s’mores, so I just cut them to size.  Arrange these kabobs in the order shown to make a Grinch in a Santa hat! These were such a hit with the kids.

Activities

Any festive craft or activity can be done during your Christmas in July party, but below are some fun ideas we did – don’t forget to play some Christmas music in the background!

Create Fake Snow

Nothing reminds me more of Christmastime than snow, so we decided to create our own!

  • Ingredients:  16 oz cornstarch & 1 can of shaving cream. Optional: Peppermint essential oil for fragrance -we love Simply Earth oils, you can shop them here (affiliate link.)
  • Directions: Empty cornstarch in a big bin or container, slowly spray in shaving cream, and mix until “snow” is at a consistency you like. We used approximately 1/2 the can of shaving cream. Optional: once snow is mixed add in 2 drops of peppermint essential oil for a festive scent!

This also makes for a great sensory play activity!

Build Gingerbread Houses

  • While we happen to have an extra gingerbread house kit stashed away in our pantry from last season that wasn’t expired yet, I know that is not the case for many, however a great off-season alternative is to use cinnamon graham crackers, icing, and regular candy.

Watch Christmas Movies

At the end of our party, we snuggled up on the couch and watched Christmas movies. Streaming services have so many great movie options, here are some recommendations currently streaming (2021 update):

  • Netflix: Fred Clause, Klaus, The Christmas Chronicles (1 & 2)
  • Disney +: A Christmas Carol, The Santa Clause (1, 2 & 3), Home Alone (1, 2, & 3), Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas
  • Hulu: The Polar Express, Curious George A Very Monkey Christmas, Santa Buddies, Scrooged

And that my friends is how you throw a Christmas in July party!
